COMBAT "Pearl Harbor" Conclusion

Ten-HUT!
...the behind-the-scenes narrative of events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor.
And now, on December 7th, 1941, at 7:55 am local time, the attack begins...
The next issue of Combat, in fact, covered what happened at Bataan...
BTW, this issue of Dell's Combat (#2) was cover-dated December 1961-January 1962, making it a 20th anniversary tribute...which we're re-presenting on the 75th anniversary!
Note that there are a lot of historical details that most presentations of Pearl Harbor tend to omit (mostly due to time or space constraints).
Artist Sam Glanzman is considered one of the best comic (or graphic novel) artists doing military comics.
His dynamic, yet meticulously-researched illustrations capture the action...and sometimes the horror of war, without glamorizing it.
It's understandable, since Glanzman is a combat veteran, having served in the Navy during WWII.
He was Dell's primary military comics artist in the 1960s, rendering almost all the stories in their anthology titles Combat (from which this tale is re-presented), World War StoriesAir War Stories, and Tales of the Green Beret.
Until next time...

COMBAT "Pearl Harbor." Part 1

A couple of years ago, we presented another, shorter version of this story...
...by the same artist.
This is a book-length take on that historic event!
To be Concluded...

BATTLE ACTION "Veteran!"

Ten-Hut!
...is another never-reprinted Korean War tale of a "veteran"!
What is the "real" definition of a veteran?
Technically, the sarge in this tale was one, though he had never seen combat!
And though his combat experience was minimal, when push came to shove, he came through like a champ!
Published during the Korean War, this story from Atlas Comics' Battle Action #11 (1953)
Illustrator Bill Walton was a journeyman with work at Ace, Eastern Color, Fiction House, and Lev Gleason (as well as Atlas) on war, horror, crime, and Western titles.
Tomorrow, the conclusion of our min-marathon with another tale about a "veteran"...
Until then...

ACTION ADVENTURE COMICS "Veteran!"

Ten-Hut!
We're making Veterans' Day into Veterans' Weekend with a three-day marathon...
...of never-reprinted comics tales all entitled "Veteran"!
The story taking point in the formation is from Stanley Morse's Action Adventure Comics #2 (1955).
It's a straightforward tale, simple and effective of the (then) just-ended Korean War.
Regrettably, both the writer and artist are unknown.
Be here tomorrow, when we continue our Veterans' Weekend mini-marathon.
Until then...

ALIEN WORLDS "Pi in the Sky"

Ten-Hut!
We haven't been covering the "future" part of our blog's title recently...
...but that's about to change, as is the life of the story's protaganist!
This never-reprinted tale from Eclipse's Alien Worlds #3 (1983) is, perhaps, a warning of what America (and mankind) may end up like if a certain mango-hued moron wins the election.

G-8 AND HIS BATTLE ACES "Secret Weapon" Conclusion

Ten-Hut!
...actually, we haven't seen this scene, since this magnificent George Wilson cover is symbolic, rather than literal!
(BTW, that's Steve [Doc Savage] Holland as G-8!
No wonder his shirt is ripped!)
But, we have seen that G-8 has discovered the hidden base from which that giant bird-like zeppelin had been launching attacks against the Allies!
So kick the tires and light the fires, because the big finale is here...
Adapted by Leo Dorfman, penciled by George Evans, and inked by Mike Peppe, the story is based upon Popular Publications' G-8 and his Battle Aces #93, (1941) "Death is My Destiny!" by Robert J Hogan (who wrote all 110 G-8 pulp novels), featuring Karg (in his only appearance)!
Why they didn't feature the eagle-shaped zepplin on the cover mystifies me...

Until we meet again...
