Christmas Combat Comics NEW HEROIC COMICS "Korean Christmas!!"

Ten-Hut!
With a second Korean War potentially-ever more inevitable...
...this never-reprinted tale from Eastern's New Heroic Comics #82 (1953) seems as relevant as ever!
While this Jack Berrill-ilustrated piece is supposedly a "True Life Story", there's no mention of the battle at a record of the unit's actions!
This is not to diminish the 21st's heroic actions during the Korean War!
In fact, the 21st was the first American ground unit to see action during the conflict!

Halloween Horror HAUNT OF HORROR "Nightmare Patrol"

Ten-Hut!
 Here's a fascinating Vietnam War-set tale...
...created in 1974, just after American participation in the drawn-out conflict ended!
This never-reprinted tale from Marvel's Haunt of Horror V2N1 (1974) was part of a wave of horror tales prompted by the loosening up of the Comics Code to allow "traditional" monsters (who had been banned since the mid-1950s) back into comics!
DC was having some success with their new Weird War Tales book as well as the long-running Our Army at War/Sgt Rock and several others, but Marvel's war titles had been reduced to just Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos...and that had just gone reprint!
So a new war-oriented title was out of the question, and the story found a home in the premiere issue of the second version of Haunt of Horror (the first was a short-lived digest featuring novelettes and short stories).

Halloween Horror TERROR TALES "Jury of Skeletons"

TEN-HUT
Several years ago...

Now, here's a b/w remake from the 1970s (using the same script), since the original couldn't be reprinted in color comics due to the Comics Code!
Note: May be NSFW!
South American artist Enrique Cristobal illustrated this redo from Eerie Publications' Terror Tales #V6N1 (1974), 21 years after the never-reprinted original's publication.

SGT FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS "Viet Nam: the Valor and the Victory!" Conclusion

TEN-HUT!
We Have Already Seen...

...in 1967,  a team of middle-aged World War II veterans known to us as the "Howling Commandos" (along with a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent) managed to destroy an atom bomb in the hands of the North Vietnamese!
(Only in comic books or action movies would that last statement actually make sense!)
They are now en-route to their pick-up site...
Editor's Note: this brings us back to where the whole story started HERE!
There would be a couple more "present-day" reunions, a Christmastime one to re-tell their experiences at the Battle of the Bulge, and one involving an assassination attempt on (now-Congressman) "Reb" Ralston...
'Till next time...

SGT FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS "Viet Nam: the Valor and the Victory!" Part 4

..the year is 1967, and the reunited/unretired Howling Commandos, along with fellow Howlers/S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury, Gabe Jones, and Dum-Dum Dugan, have infiltrated North VietNam to deactivate/demolish a nuclear bomb.
Accompanied by rookie S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jasper Sitwell, the motley ensemble is about to arrive at the bomb's location in Haiphong...
WTF???
They just blew up one of North VietNam's biggest cities?
So much for being a discreet, low-key operation!
But the danger isn't over yet...as you'll see when the gang reach their rendezvous point and...
Nah.
You'll have to come back tomorrow for the conclusion featuring even more cataclysmic combat!

SGT FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS "Viet Nam: the Valor and the Victory!" Part 3

TEN-HUT!
...it's 1967, and President Lyndon Johnson has brought the Howling Commandos out of retirement to join still-active S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Colonel Nick Fury, Dum-Dum Dugan, and Gabe Jones to prevent the North Vietnamese from utilizing an atomic bomb to change the course of the war!
With rookie S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jasper Sitwell rounding out the team, they arrive in South Vietnam to prepare for their covert operation...
We must pause in our re-telling of this never-reprinted tale by writer Gary Friedrich, penciller Dick Ayers and inker John Tartaglione from Marvel's Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos #3 (1967) until tomorrow.
So, for now...
